Priscilla

Sofia Coppola's filmic gaze is sensitively directed towards a female figure trapped in a golden cage. She places Priscilla Presley, usually in the shadow of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, at the centre and shows the American myth of the turbulent marriage from the inner perspective of the young, rapturous girl who develops into an independent, strong-willed woman. Priscilla Presley was involved in the film as a producer and her memoirs "Elvis and Me" served as the starting point for the film. The impressive story of emancipation brings the 60s and 70s to life with captivatingly composed décor, elegant costumes, opulent make-up and an iconic soundtrack by the band Phoenix. "Priscilla" celebrated its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where Cailee Spaeny was honoured with the Best Actress award for her sensitive portrayal of Priscilla.
