Professor Gary Johnson (Glen Powell) leads a rather unexciting life at the university. Thrills or a love life are rather alien to him - except that he occasionally helps the police with small undercover missions. When an undercover investigator drops out and Gary has to step in without warning, he soon finds himself a suspected contract killer. Thanks to his knowledge of human nature, he plays his role surprisingly well and convicts a series of clients. One day, Gary meets potential client Madison (Adria Arjona). The sparks fly - and the two finally get involved in a completely unprofessional affair. But then a series of misunderstandings sets unexpected complications in motion.
